Henry reached out to share his experience after an attempted bicycle theft in Somerville, Massachusetts, in the greater Boston area. While someone attempted to steal his bike, the theft was ultimately unsuccessful thanks to the protection provided by his LITELOK X1.
Henry had purchased the bike just two months earlier.
“I bought the bike new about two months ago for $1000”
The bicycle was secured in a residential neighbourhood, locked to a thick metal hoop that was cemented into the ground. It was stored under an open shed in the driveway of a house, making the bikes difficult to see from the sidewalk.
“Took place in a pretty residential area of a city. The bike was locked to a thick metal hoop, which is cemented into the ground (pictured below), under an open shed in the driveway of a house. The bikes are barely visible from the sidewalk.”

The attempted theft was discovered on the morning of June 15th. Based on the damage left behind, Henry believes the attempt happened the previous night.
“We found the cuts on the morning of June 15th so we suspect the attempted theft took place the night before.”
Henry also suspects he may have heard the attempted break-in as it happened.
“In retrospect, I possibly heard the sound of an angle grinder around 2am on the 15th.”
The thief attempted to cut through the lock using an angle grinder but was unable to complete the job.
“Based on the markings I think the blade of the angle grinder broke, which is why they gave up.”

Another bike was secured to the same hoop, and it was also protected with an X1.
“There was another bike on the hoop, also protected with an X1.”
After discovering the damage, Henry shared the outcome of the incident:
“I had an attempted bicycle theft (which was fortunately thwarted by the LITELOK”
His experience highlights the importance of using a strong lock and securing a bicycle with a reliable anchor point. Even with an angle grinder attempt, the lock helped prevent the bicycle from being stolen.
