LITELOK X3 Saves £28k BMW GS in Birmingham #96

When it comes to motorcycle security, real-world experiences speak louder than words, and Dave’s story from the University of Birmingham shows just how tough the LITELOK X3 really is.

After finishing a day teaching nursing students, Dave was looking forward to a relaxed ride home on his brand-new BMW GS, just two weeks old and worth over £28,000. It was only the second day he’d ridden it to work, parking right outside the front entrance to the medical school, in full view of passing students.

"I know first hand how the X3 is so outstanding, as I am looking to replace and double up on my X3. Yesterday after teaching my nursing student at the University of Birmingham, I finished my day looking for a relaxed ride home on my two week old GS, this was the second day I had ridden to work and was parked outside the front entrance to the medical school with plenty of visibility from passing students.”

Unfortunately, visibility alone wasn’t enough to deter two determined thieves.

“Two scumbags with balaclavas attempted to cut the X3 with a grinder, they were unsuccessful and made their escape on a scooter. They managed to to get 1/3 to 1/2 way through the one cut before they were discovered by the noise and the smoke. So yes I understand the outstanding results from owning and using a Litelok."

Despite a grinder attack, the X3 held firm, protecting Dave’s prized GS and sending the would-be thieves fleeing empty-handed. The attempted theft was noisy and visible, drawing attention from nearby students and staff.

“I am not sure about a time as I only found out when I was about to go home, the guy in reception said that they had been told by students what they had seen.”

The resilience of the lock gave Dave a new level of confidence in his motorcycle security, so much so that he’s already looking to add another X3 to his setup.

“I am also now aware that three other bikes have been successfully stolen proximal to the medical school recently.”

It’s a stark reminder that bike and motorcycle theft can happen anywhere, even in busy, well-lit areas. But the X3 once again proved its strength in the real world, standing up to one of the most aggressive attack methods. The would be thieves would have had to make two cuts in order to succeed. 

“My GS is only a few weeks old and with the spec retails at over £28,000. The GS has an alarm and a tracker fitted and as an ASA model (semi-automatic gearbox) so it was in PARK so they would have struggled to move it without the key.”
