This month, Mike shared a real-world incident that highlights just how important solid motorcycle security can be. What started as a quiet night in Lancaster quickly turned into a stressful wake-up call, one that ultimately ended in frustration for a group of would-be thieves and relief for the bike’s owner.
Mike owns a Honda Rebel 1100, a motorcycle valued at over £10,000, which he had secured on his driveway using a LITELOK X1. Like many riders, he relied on the lock as his primary line of defence against opportunistic theft, especially overnight when vehicles are most vulnerable.
That night, around 3am, thieves targeted the bike directly on the driveway. Their method was straightforward but aggressive: bolt cutters. It’s a common approach used in quick theft attempts, relying on brute force to cut through locks and make off with the vehicle as fast as possible.

However, the attempt did not go as planned.
Despite using bolt cutters, the attackers were unable to get through the X1 lock. The resistance of the lock held firm, preventing them from completing the theft. After repeated attempts and mounting frustration, the situation escalated in a different direction.
Instead of walking away empty-handed, the thieves reportedly lashed out in anger. The bike was knocked over in what appeared to be an act of frustration after failing to cut the lock. Unfortunately, this isn’t uncommon as we hear a lot of cases where thieves have damaged riders’ bikes and/or motorcycles once they realise their time has been wasted.
The X1 is permanently fused to a hardened fine-grain high-tensile steel core which provides protection against all other commonly used tools such as bolt croppers, cable cutters, long bars, hammers and chisels, as well as being highly resistant to angle grinders.
“Thieves tried to take it around 3am but appear to have had no luck cutting the X1, got frustrated and flipping the bike on its side out of spite.”
For Mike, the outcome could have been far worse. While the bike sustained damage from being tipped over, the key outcome was that it remained in place and was not stolen, something that could have been a total loss given its value.

Incidents like this underline the unpredictable nature of theft attempts. While no security product can guarantee absolute protection, in this case the LITELOK X1 played a decisive role in stopping the theft from being successful.
In the end, the story from Lancaster serves as a reminder: strong security can be the difference between a stolen motorcycle and one that stays put.
