LITELOK X1 Saves E-Bike in Berlin #112

At LITELOK, we design our locks for one simple reason: real-world protection. Recently, Maya in Berlin experienced exactly why that matters, and their story perfectly captures what the LITELOK X1 was built to do.

"The attempt had taken place in Berlin, Germany, in front of our apartment, in a bike rack in our apartment building's yard, like in the photo"

Berlin is a vibrant cycling city, but like many major cities, bike theft is an unfortunate reality. This attempted theft didn’t happen in a dark alleyway. It happened right outside the owner’s apartment, in their own building’s yard.

"The exact date of the attempt is unknown but it has taken place in the last 30 days. Because the weather was really snowy and cold in the past month and we have been not using the bike. When the weather got better last week, we decided to use the bike and notice the damage on the lock. We assume its happened during very late in the night because I work from home and the bike racks are directly visible from my couch and desk."

The bike had been resting during Berlin’s snowy winter spell. When the weather improved and it was finally time to ride again, the damage was discovered: clear signs that someone had tried and failed to defeat the lock.

"The bike in question is Tenways CGO600 Pro in blue colour, should worth approximately 1800 Euros (bought in 2023)"

At LITELOK, we know that modern e-bikes represent more than transport, they’re freedom, convenience, and serious financial investments. That’s why the X1 is engineered to resist the most common forms of attack.

"The bike was locked into one of the angular iron bars seen in the photo"

"We have never seen the thief or heard anything. But other people's bikes have stolen from the same bike racks before in the past years. There is no other bike lock that is on the same security level with Litelok in the yard.

So despite bikes next to ours being stolen before; we've been actually quite confident that they would not even attempt to steal ours because the lock seems really thick and big, unlike anything the thieves seen before (95% of the time Abus or Kryptonite). Some of the incidents were done by breaking the folding locks on the joints for example, around 4 am. I actually have been telling the neighbours to buy a decent u-lock like ours and suggesting litelok in almost any related conversation."

At LITELOK, we intentionally design our locks to change the psychology of theft. Visibility matters. Resistance matters. When a thief realises the job isn’t going to be quick or easy, they often move on.

"It's also worth noting that the bike thieves in Berlin are not as sophisticated and as daring, unlike the ones in London etc (we didn't hear of a usage of an angle grinder in Berlin for example). We guess that someone attempted to use something like a bolt-cutter, thinking that it would do the job and then left when it did not workout (luckily they did not try to harm the bike) and we have noticed it potentially some days later."

But the X1 is engineered specifically to resist the most common theft tools used. What was likely intended to be a fast, quiet theft attempt turned into a failed effort.

And importantly: the bike was untouched.

"Thank you, this event has proven us how good of a choice we made with our bike locks. :)"
