LITELOK X1 Saves Bike at Yale University #137

Most of our success stories have one thing in common: someone tries to steal a bike, and the lock refuses to give in.

This story is different.

There was no bike thief. No late-night theft attempt. No opportunistic criminal targeting an unattended bike.

Instead, the challenge came from a university-wide effort to clear every bike from campus for the summer.

On May 16, 2026, at approximately 1:00 PM, a bike valued at $626 USD was left locked to a bike stand on the Yale University campus, New Haven, Connecticut, using only an X1 lock. As the academic year came to a close, campus security began removing bicycles that had been left behind.

The bike owner's mother, Sonia reached out:

“Well worth the money - My daughter’s bike was almost confiscated at Yale University. The lock held up. So amazing. It worked so well I purchased another.”

As Sonia explained:

“Well, my daughter was at home for a visit and decided to leave her bike on campus. Her roommate stated that it looked like her lock was damaged. When she arrived on campus, campus security informed her that they tried to remove all bikes off of campus for the summer. Her friend stated that they removed everyone’s bike using an angle grinder. Her lock withstood the effects of the angle grinder and thus remained in the same location where she left it. Yay. We were over the moon when we saw the lock. Incredible quality❤️💯

While the lock showed signs of the removal attempt, it ultimately did exactly what it was designed to do: keep the bike secured.

In a situation where numerous bikes were reportedly removed from campus, this bike remained exactly where it had been left. The LITELOK X1 successfully resisted the attempt to cut through it, preventing the bike from being taken away during the campus clearance effort.

That's what makes this story so memorable. It wasn't a test against a bike thief, it was a real-world test against determined removal efforts during a campus-wide bike sweep.

And when the owner returned, her bike was still there waiting for her.

For Sonia and her daughter, that peace of mind made the investment more than worthwhile.
