For riders, security matters, especially when leaving your motorcycle overnight away from home. That’s exactly what happened to Mark on the 9th of May, when thieves attempted to steal his BMW R1300GS outside a Travelodge in Portsmouth.
Mark had secured the bike using a LITELOK X1 through the rear wheel and chained it to a post directly in front of the hotel reception and under CCTV coverage.
Then, at around 1:30am, three thieves attempted to steal the bike.
As Mark explained:
“The bike, BMW R1300GS, was secured through the rear wheel and chained to a post directly in front of the hotel reception under cctv. Around 1:30am, Saturday 9th May 26, 3 scroats attempted to cut the lock with bolt croppers and failed.”
Despite the attempted attack, the LITELOK X1 held firm and prevented the theft.
The lock itself sustained some damage during the attempted break-in, but crucially, it continued to function with only cosmetic damage, allowing Mark to keep using it afterwards on travels.
Built to Resist the Tools Thieves Use Most
The LITELOK X range is designed to provide riders with protection against the tools most commonly used in motorcycle theft attempts. Alongside resistance to angle grinder attacks, the X range is built to defend against tools including bolt croppers, cable cutters, long bars, hammers and chisels.
“The outer rubber has been damaged; the lock is a little difficult to use now but it is seeing me through my trip in France.”
We are continuing to see an increase in attempted thefts involving the BMW R1300GS, with thieves clearly targeting high-value adventure motorcycles. We’re also hearing more reports of attempted thefts taking place outside hotels and overnight accommodation.

As the weather gets warmer and riding season gets underway, more riders are touring, travelling abroad, and heading out on multi-day trips and expeditions, often leaving bikes parked overnight in unfamiliar locations. Situations like these are exactly where strong security can make all the difference.
In this case, the LITELOK X1 helped ensure Mark’s bike stayed exactly where he left it.
