At the beginning of June, Elliot shared their experience of an attempted bike theft at Ewell West Train Station, Surrey where their Haibike, valued between £2,500 and £5,000, was targeted by thieves.
“Came back from work to collect my bike which I’d locked at the train station cycle shelter to see damage was caused to the lock and the bike stand. They actually cut completely through the bike stand, so I’m lucky.”
Fortunately, Elliot’s LITELOK X1 prevented the theft and kept the bike secure despite the attack.

When thieves discover they can’t get through a LITELOK, they will often try alternative methods to steal the bike. While this can result in damage to surrounding property, it also increases the risk for the thief, who may be forced to damage public infrastructure in the process. In many cases, this added difficulty encourages them to move on to easier targets. However, some determined thieves remain committed to stealing a specific bike.

That’s why using a Sold Secure Diamond-rated lock is so important, particularly in locations such as train stations. Thieves know that commuters are often away from their bikes for extended periods, making strong, proven security essential.
Just as important as choosing a high-security lock is using it correctly. Whenever possible, riders should secure both the frame and a wheel to an immovable object rather than locking only a wheel. If thieves were ever able to compromise the frame or another component, a bike locked through both the frame and wheel becomes far more difficult to remove.
With the wheel immobilised and attached to the stand, thieves can't simply ride the bike away or roll it off quickly, adding another significant barrier that can make them abandon the attempt altogether.
