A determined thief tried to steal Steve’s electric cargo bike in Portland, Oregon. The LITELOK X1 helped stop them.
For Steve, his electric cargo bike is more than just a way to get around Portland. His Xtracycle Hopper, worth around $3,000, is a valuable part of his everyday life.
“I live in Portland, Oregon USA. I have one of your locks for my electric cargo bike. Someone tried to steal it on Friday. While they did a bunch of damage to my bike and the exterior of my lock, but it prevented the theft! I got my bike back and the cops caught the guy.”
The attempted theft took place at a bus stop right next to the Moda Center, one of Portland’s major sports and entertainment venues.
Steve wasn't with the bike when the attempt happened.
“Portland, Oregon. At a bus stop right next to the Moda Center, which is the big sports center here. A place with a lot of police presence.”
The incident happened on Friday 25th, at around 10am.
“I wasn't there, but around 10am on a Friday”
Despite the location, and the presence of police in the area, someone still attempted to take Steve’s bike, which he had secured the bike to a pole using the LITELOK X1.
“It looks to me like the thief was attempting to get the pole out of its base and slide it out of the lock. I didn't learn what other tools he had, but the guy used some kind of messy black grease as a lubricant. Fortunately, I have the bike registered with the Portland Police and they were able to contact me right away.”
The attempt left visible damage to both the bike and the exterior of the X1. But the crucial thing was that the thief didn't get the bike. The LITELOK X1 held firm, preventing the attempted theft.
Steve had also taken an important additional step to protect his bike: registering it with the Portland Police.
That registration proved valuable after the attempted theft.
“Fortunately, I have the bike registered with the Portland Police and they were able to contact me right away.”
For a $3,000 e-cargo bike left secured in a public place, the LITELOK X1 did exactly what Steve needed it to do: stand between a determined thief and his bike.
