For many cyclists, a bike is more than just a way to get around. It carries memories, history, and years of personal attachment. That was exactly the case for Will, whose custom GT Palomar avoided theft thanks to his LITELOK X1.
Back in March 2026, Will locked up his bike outside The Corn Exchange Wetherspoons in Bury St Edmunds, United Kingdom. It was an ordinary stop, but one that quickly became unforgettable.
His custom GT Palomar, valued between £500 and £1,000, had never attracted unwanted attention before. In fact, after two decades of ownership, Will had always assumed the bike was too old or too niche to interest thieves.
That changed the very first time he secured it in public using the LITELOK X1.
When Will returned, he immediately noticed signs that someone had tried to attack the lock, thought to be an angle grinder attempt.
“Literally the first time I locked my bike up in public, I came back to it with a bit nibbled out of the coating.”
Thankfully, the attempt appeared to have been short-lived.
“Doesn't look like they tried very hard or for very long.”
Even so, the experience was unsettling, especially considering the bike’s history and personal importance.
What made the incident especially concerning for Will wasn’t simply the monetary value of the bike, but the emotional value attached to it.
“Very spooked as I've always thought this bike was undesirable as I've literally never had anyone try to steal it in the past 20 years, and the first time I used this lock someone tried to crack it!”
Despite the attempted theft, the LITELOK X1 held strong and prevented the thieves from getting any further.
“Very glad they didn't get this bike as it has great sentimental value.”
Will’s experience is a reminder that thieves don’t always target only high-end or brand-new bikes. Older bikes, custom builds, and sentimental favourites can still attract attention especially when left in public spaces.
Fortunately, in this case, the attack stopped at cosmetic damage to the lock coating, and Will was able to ride home with the bike he’d owned and cared for over the past 20 years.
The X1 is angle grinder resistant thanks to its material, Barronium. Instead of simply absorbing cutting force, Barronium is designed to disrupt and dissipate it, effectively turning energy back onto the grinder disc itself. This dramatically slows down cutting attempts and makes sustained attack far more difficult in practice.
