Matthieu reached out to share an incredible story of an attempted theft involving his £7,500 Riese & Müller Delite4 Touring GT HS e-bike. Even after the thieves got their hands on the bike, the LITELOK X3 held strong and stopped them in their tracks.
“The theft happened at our flat. We have a bike parking that is protected by a fence which can only be opened by our keys. There are no physical elements to which we can attach bikes to, so it was simply there, standing."
Even with the secure fencing, determined thieves made their move while Matthieu was away on holiday, sometime between July 7th and 13th.
“The thieves actually climbed over the fence, carried the bike (which weighs 35kg!!!) over the fence as well, and walked nearly 2km with it. They then tried to cut the lock with a grinder, which obviously failed, as one can see on the picture!”
Despite the bold effort, the thieves were no match for the lock securing Matthieu’s bike. Foiled in their attempt, they ditched the bike in a nearby field.
That’s when the story took a surprising twist.
“A farmer found it in a ditch while he was sickling the weeds in his field. The police identified the bike with the plate and called me at 10.30pm to ask me if I could come pick it up 5km from my place.”
Thanks to proper registration, and the diligence of local law enforcement (and one sharp-eyed farmer), Matthieu was reunited with his bike—5km away from home.
This story is a powerful reminder of the importance of investing in high-quality locks and registering your bike.
