LITELOK X1 Saves Yamaha MT-07 Motorcycle in Windsor #156

For motorcycle owners, the thought of returning to where you parked your bike only to find it gone is a nightmare. For Ruby, that fear became a very real possibility when thieves targeted her Yamaha MT-07, affectionately named Yvette, in Windsor, Berkshire.

Valued at around £7,500, Yvette was targeted on 7th October. Windsor is a well-known and affluent area of Berkshire, but as Ruby’s experience demonstrates, motorcycle theft can happen anywhere. No matter where you live or park your bike, having multiple layers of security can make a crucial difference.

Ruby had taken several precautions to protect her motorcycle, combining different security products to create multiple obstacles for would-be thieves.

“I had two disc locks on the front, a tru tension bike cover and the LITELOK X1 on my rear tire going through my bike cover. And an alarmed brake lever lock.”

A determined attempt to steal Yvette

Unfortunately, the thieves were persistent. During their attempt, they managed to defeat some of the other security devices Ruby had installed, causing damage to both the locks and the motorcycle in the process.

One of the disc locks was attacked with an angle grinder, while the second proved more difficult to overcome. The thieves resorted to smashing it through the brake disc after their angle grinder attempt failed.

Ruby also found that her LITELOK X1 had been attacked.

“One disc lock was angle grinded off, the other was smashed through my brake disk after failing to give on with the angle grinder. And my D LITELOK was damaged but not broken through. The cheap brake lever lock was untouched.”

While the attempted theft unfortunately resulted in damage, the fact that the thieves were unable to break through the LITELOK X1 is significant.

Multiple layers of security matter

Ruby’s experience is a powerful example of why we recommend using multiple layers of motorcycle security.

There is no single security product that can guarantee a motorcycle will never be targeted. Instead, combining different types of protection creates multiple barriers for thieves to overcome. Every additional lock, alarm, cover or security device can add valuable time and frustration to an attempted theft.

In Ruby’s case, the thieves were able to remove one disc lock and defeat another, but they were still faced with the LITELOK X1 protecting the rear wheel.

That extra layer made a difference.

Built to resist angle-grinder attacks

The LITELOK X1 is specifically designed to defend against one of the most common tools used by professional motorcycle thieves: the angle grinder.

X1 is armoured with Barronium®, our patented composite material engineered to resist angle-grinder attacks by turning the grinder’s energy and force back on itself. Rather than simply relying on conventional hardened steel, Barronium® is designed to make the attack itself work against the thief.

Ruby’s experience shows the importance of LITELOK protection. Despite the thieves attacking the lock, the LITELOK X1 was damaged but not broken through.

“This could have happened between 3:30 pm and 11 pm”

Bikes can be targeted during day and night, in residential areas and in locations where owners may reasonably expect them to be safe.

For Ruby, the most important outcome is that Yvette was still there. Although the attempted theft left its mark, the combination of security measures ultimately meant the thieves didn't get away with her £7,500 Yamaha MT-07.

Her story demonstrates why a layered approach to motorcycle security is so important. Different locks provide different challenges, and when thieves are forced to spend more time and effort overcoming each layer, they face greater risk of being disturbed or caught.

And, most importantly, Yvette stayed where she belonged.
