Haunted by Bike Theft? The Best Security to Keep Your Ride Safe

57.6% of cyclists who answered our Bike Theft Survey have had their bicycle stolen at least once, with 44% of theft victims having had their bike stolen more than once.

72% of motorcyclists who answered our Moto Theft Survey have had their motorcycle stolen at least once, with 26% of theft victims having had more than one motorcycle stolen.

We spoke to Chris Dodds, aka, one.biker.north, about his experience with having motorcycles stolen.

"I’ve had two bikes stolen in the past and it really knocked my confidence. Angle grinders were used in both of the thefts and they made light work of the chains and disc locks I was using, and after that I never felt like the bike was safe.

Every time I parked up I was on edge, I couldn’t relax and it took away a lot of the joy of riding. For me motorbikes have always been about freedom and being able to switch off but that feeling had been lost following the thefts.

I’ve also put a lot into my custom Triumph Scrambler and the thought of losing it is always in the back of my mind so having a lock I can trust really matters. With the X1 I actually feel like I can lock up and walk away without stressing which gives that peace of mind. It's made a real difference as I can enjoy the ride and day out for what it should be rather than constantly worrying about what might happen when I’m not with my bike."

We also heard from Adam Thompson, aka, Ad_the_biker, who shared his experience with us.

" Litelok – easing anxiety

Back in my late teens — and still to this day — anxiety has played a significant role in my life for various reasons. One of the earliest moments I truly felt its grip was when I lost my first piece of independence: my beloved 2000 Gilera Runner 125 two-stroke. I can still smell it now. That bike took me everywhere — college, friends, family.

Being young and naive, I didn’t take security seriously. I thought a disc lock and steering lock would be enough. Clearly not. Just five minutes in the local convenience store for a pint of milk, and my independence vanished. All that remained was a split disc lock.

I quickly realised it wasn’t the loss of the bike itself that triggered the anxiety, but what it represented. It was more than transport — it was a hobby (tinkering and modifying), a gateway to new places and people, and a lifeline to family I couldn’t easily reach otherwise.

This had a profound effect on me. Every bike I owned after that was never left out of sight. If I had to leave it, I’d feel anxious until I could check on it — even if it was just for a few minutes.

That pattern continued until about a month ago, when I got hold of my Litelok X1. While the habits remain, the worry doesn’t. Thanks to its angle grinder and theft resistance, I finally feel secure knowing the bike I’ve worked so hard for will be right where I left it. Litelok has given me that peace of mind. Thank you!"
